“On the new Xbox, all game discs are installed to the HDD to play,” a Microsoft representative told Wired.
The company added that, once discs are installed on the hard drive, games can be played without a disc being in the tray.
The Wired article then elaborates: “What follows naturally from this is that each disc would have to be tied to a unique Xbox Live account, else you could take a single disc and pass it between everyone you know and copy the game over and over. Since this is clearly not going to happen, each disc must then only install for a single owner.”
It added: “Microsoft did say that if a disc was used with a second account, that owner would be given the option to pay a fee and install the game from the disc, which would then mean that the new account would also own the game and could play it without the disc.”

Say goodbye to game rentals and loaning a game to a friend, on the XBox One. If someone wants to borrow your game, they have to pay money.
Literally all Sony has to do at this point is not implement this and they’ll trounce MS. All of my customers have been ready to jump ship from XBox over this.

So … wait … that last paragraph. Basically you can never BORROW a game again. You can BUY it, essentially - because the new account ‘owns’ the game and can play it without the disc. So they’re basically selling the game twice if you want to play it on a new account. I don’t know what they’re going to charge, but…

Wow. Mr. OYD and I were just talking last night about how the next gen consoles are likely going to be redundant and/or obsolete for us, and with the rate at which he plays games/goes through and sells them back, I am going to guess this will seal it for him.
The console-exclusive game library hasn’t impressed recently, either, and that was always the big drawing point for us as console consumers, especially since I discovered that PC gaming is easier for my hands and cognitive skills.
